Apologies: Sarah Ward 'V' involved, Pete Edwards Youth Service.
Discussion and feedback from the Myplace review on Friday: the young people reps had come to the meeting to discuss how they wanted to be involved in the Myplace board, it was agreed that when a management group is formed there should be equal representation from young people this will be taken forward following the success through to the next stage of the bid. If the bid goes through to the next round there will be a £50k sustainability grant that will go towards the development of a management group and this will include young people. It was suggested that there would be six adults with six young people shadowing these roles with the overall aim being that after a gradual training and development/confidence building phase the young people would begin to take on the main role with the adult members slipping into more of a shadow position. The Young Peoples group that currently meets is a very open meeting and the aim is to continue to have these meetings to ensure that any young people that are interested in feeding into the process have the opportunity.
Youth Opportunities Fund: On the next Young Peoples Meeting agenda will be a focus on the YOF to apply for monies for the development and support of the young people's partnership and representation in the myplace process, but also to continue the focus around young peoples participation in the development of youth provisions and services in Calderdale.
Locality Representation minority/vulnerable groups representation: To ensure representation from all sections of the community across Calderdale there needs to be ongoing discussions and sharing of information about the myplace bid and processes through structures such as the IYSS area forums, the VCS network structure, the Calderdale Packet, and any other communication structures that are available. There is also the possibility of developing through training and support some young people to awareness raise about the Myplace bid and how other young people can feed in (possible that some of the 'V' involved young people may be able to take up some volunteering hours to cover some of this role?).As members of the young peoples support group Anne, Leanne, Kala and Sarah will be responsible for a locality each:
Lower Valley: Anne Gomersall
Upper Valley: Kala Wild
Central: Sarah Ward
North and East Halifax: Leanne Freeman
Other discussion: Further development of a structured young peoples management group through elected/applied for positions that would have a timescale of commitment to the role, training and development opportunities/ roles and responsibilities/ support mechanism drawing from all the professionals and resources that are currently linked into the myplace bid and future support from external agencies.
The next Myplace Young Peoples meeting is to be held on the 14th January (venue to be arranged) further info to follow.
Previous
The first phase of the bid has been completed and a provisional bid has been submitted to the Big Lottery. The group will find out in February 2009 if they can proceed to the next round. Many thanks to all the groups, too numerous to mention, that have been involved in this process. It is hoped these groups will gather round the table again if the bid carries on to the next stage.
The Young People's Partnership Board is an open meeting with a core group of memebers from both VCS and statutory young people's provision.
The Young Poeple's partnership is continuing to meet to discuss the possibilities, issues and needs of young people in Calderdale, in relation not only to this MYPlace bid, but for youth provision in Calderdale.
Groups interested in being involved in the working groups, please contact Kala Wild.
