Local safeguarding children boardsChildren can only be safeguarded properly if the key agencies work effectively together. Local safeguarding children boards (LSCBs) are designed to help ensure that this happens. They put the former area child protection committees (ACPCs) on a statutory footing. The core membership of LSCBs is set out in the Children Act 2004, and includes local authorities, health bodies, the police and others. The objective of LSCBs is to coordinate and to ensure the effectiveness of their member agencies in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The statutory regulations, which came into force on 1 April 2006, are available from the OPSI website. |

In Our HandsOur world is changing. We all need more skills than ever before. Two out of three jobs in the future will require a higher level of skills and better qualifications. In fact, in less than 10 years there will be very few unskilled jobs. Meanwhile, thousands of employers - of all sizes - admit their staff don't have the right skills needed for the future. But we're all natural learners - so use this site and the links to services available from our further education partners to explore how you can take control of your future, today. Remember growing your skills and qualifications can also grow your income, so your future earnings really are in your hands.
Our future. It's in our hands.

Play in The Children's PlanPlay England has produced two documents summarising the play-related commitments contained in The Children's Plan: Building brighter futures. The Children's Plan outlines the government's strategy for improving services for children and young people and their families over the next ten years, with the aim of 'making England the best place in the world for children and young people to grow up'. This landmark document includes significant government policy commitments that will benefit the play sector, including plans for the first ever national play strategy, £225m of new money to build or renovate play areas, and training to enable playworkers to gain a professional qualification. Government has also said it will work with local authority planners to create more child friendly public spaces, implement more 20mph speed zones and encourage the wider adoption of home zones.
