This Project focuses on health equality. Since September 2007 the Health Development Project (HDP) has supported voluntary & community Sector (VCS) involvement and delivery of five priority health areas, which are part of the Calderdale Local Area Agreement (LAA).

1. Healthy Weight - There is concern about the number of people who are clinically obese, ie. have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or over. The Project is supporting groups:
  • to train people working in the VCS to be Healthy Weight Programme Leaders so they can then run courses with people who use their service
  • to find groups who can host Health Weight Trainers who can run courses in VCS venues.
  • There is a potential financil reward for groups involved.
  • Please see leaflet for furher details.

2. Alcohol Brief Interventions - Volunteers/staff from VCS groups can train to carry out alcohol screening questionnaires and, when neccessary, brief interventions such as getting people people to keep a 'drink diary'. If a brief intervention is carried out your group will receive a payment!

3. Promotion of breastfeeding - If your organisation are interested in promoting breastfeeding in Calderdale, particularly in North Halifax.

4. Increasing adult participation in sport - VCS groups benfit from free six week sessional trainers and Sport Centre reductions.

5. Work the project focuses on supporting VCS groups to enable people with disabilities of all kinds to get paid employment.
